The client, a retired executive, was looking to create a modern home for his Paradise Valley lot with views of Camelback Mountain. He found a collaborator in Desert Star Construction. The powerful design and construction, scheduled to break ground this year, is marked by a broad, soaring roofline that lifts to reveal mountain views from the open great room of the three-bedroom home, as well as angled walls that extend from the home’s interior into the landscape. The plan also includes a guest casita, a home office, and an atrium. Materials such as rammed earth, cast-in-place concrete, and weathered metal cladding link the home to the desert and mountain geology. Sixteen-foot sliding window walls, terrazzo-finished concrete flooring, and a sleek Bulthaup kitchen add polish to the home. The walls of the great room slide open to connect to the pool patio, creating a home that feels like an open-air pavilion.
